YouTube’s Music Streaming Service Starts Rolling Out This Week

YouTube will begin directly competing with the major music streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music this week. There will be a Premium ad-free version that costs $9.99 per month and will include background listening and downloads.

From YouTube:

YouTube Music is a new music streaming service made for music: official songs, albums, thousands of playlists and artist radio plus YouTube’s tremendous catalog of remixes, live performances, covers and music videos that you can’t find anywhere else – all simply organized and personalized. For the first time, all the ways music moves you can be found in one place.

Besides YouTube Music Premium, Google is rebranding YouTube Red, which is their premium subscription version of YouTube that is ad-free and includes original content, movies, and TV shows. It will now be called YouTube Premium and will cost $11.99 per month. This will bundle the new streaming music service and the ad-free video content into one package.
